Getting My Young Adult Novel Published?

By Twitter Tools Posted in: Twitter Tools

I have written a young adult novel and am currently in the process of editing it. I’m 19 years old myself, and am trying to decide between getting it published the traditional way and have it sold in a bookstore.. or self publishing it and having it sold online on Kindle etc. I’m leaning towards the second option because of the simple fact that my target audience spends majority of their time online, and I can get all the money myself and have it paid straight to my account. I can network so much online with Facebook, Twitter, making a book trailer for Youtube etc and get people to buy the book who don’t usually read.
What do you think?

Kindle is your best option at the start, as you can always take your book down and add to it – or edit a mistake that you didn’t discover on the final edit.
And you get 30% or 70% of the retail price, which you decide at the start.
If you were president Obama or a woman who has been on trial for murder and then released, publishing would be no problem, but in your case, as a beginner, you are looking at 5 years waiting time before your book arrives on the bookshelves bringing you 8% of gross, after you find a publisher or an agent that is.
If you are thinking of making money as a writer, here is some good advice, do not give up your day job.
    Best of luck.

I think most self-published novels sell almost no copies, and none at all to anyone who you haven’t personally begged to buy it. How many self-published ebooks have _you_ bought? How many of them were by people you don’t know?
I’d suggest you at least _try_ to get paid for it. That means a commercial publisher – though some commercial publishers do ebooks. The choice between commercial publishing and self-publishing is not the same as the choice between a hardcopy book and an ebook.
